Enhancing safety

Amber Construction was appointed by Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea to carry out comprehensive external envelope works and building safety improvements across 10 residential properties situated above a row of commercial units. The project required careful management of a fully occupied, low-rise block, ensuring all works met the highest standards of compliance, safety and best practice.

A key focus of the project was resident engagement. Amber Construction facilitated multiple consultation sessions, allowing residents to provide input on key design elements. Options were discussed collaboratively, and residents casted votes to determine the final selections. This co-design approach ensured that the finished project reflected the preferences of the community while maintaining exceptional quality and safety standards.

Managing challenges

The project presented logistical challenges due to its location and limited space. The team maximised the available areas and carefully managed deliveries to reduce congestion, making the block safer and more accessible. Noisy works were restricted to specific hours to provide residents with quiet periods during the day.

Clear and proactive communication helped residents understand potential disruptions, including noise, service interruptions and access requirements. For vulnerable residents, bespoke safeguarding measures were implemented. This involved working closely with family members or carers, introducing secure entry systems and arranging additional home visits to ensure safety and support throughout the works.

Community Impact

Book Donation

Amber Construction actively engages with local schools and colleges, working alongside our partners to maximise social value for the communities we serve. After consulting with the Head Teacher at Park Walk Primary School, we identified a need for books due to limited funding. Through our partners at LoveReading4Kids, the school was able to select and receive the resources they required, supporting literacy and learning for local children.

Local Employment

Amber Construction is committed to providing opportunities to the local communities in which we work. Zanele joined the Amber team in May 2023 in a position advertised to local Kensington and Chelsea residents. Through on-site training, she quickly adapted to her role and has since contributed to the Slaidburn Street project. In under two years, Zanele has progressed from Trainee to Resident Liaison Officer, consistently providing residents with excellent support and communication, becoming a valued member of the Amber team.
